There are many parasites that affect your pets and just because you do not always see them does not mean that your pet is safe. Parasites can cause irritation and can spread serious disease. There are three main groups of parasites that we recommend you protect your pet against routinely and these are:
- Worms including lungworm
Most of us pick up our new puppy or kitten when they are approximately 7 weeks old, and we should start considering how we are going to prevent from them being affected by these parasites right from this point, in order to safeguard both their health and our own. As with any disease prevention is better than having to treat it.
We use very safe and effective products that require a vet to have checked your pet before you can buy them. Your vet will advise which products your pet requires for according to its lifestyle but generally you will require at least two or three products to achieve this effectively. There is currently no one product that is effective against all parasites.
Other types of pets should not be forgotten as they may also require preventive parasite treatments - for example rabbits should have a treatment for the parasite Encephalitazoon cuniculi two to four times a year; chicks should also be wormed and ferrets may need treatment for ear mites.
