We have a well–equipped laboratory on site at our practice in Endless Street. It is staffed by two full time laboratory technicians. They perform a wide variety of diagnostic tests. These cover the following main areas:

• Haematology
• Biochemistry
• Bacteriology
• Cytology
• Parasitology

The main advantage of having a laboratory on site is that results are available very quickly. In cases of emergency treatment, it could mean the difference between life and death.

Biochemistry tests are run on a fully automated Prestige 24i wet chemistry analyser machine. Haematology tests are also automated, but the results will usually be confirmed by the laboratory technicians using the more conventional method of making a blood smear. Both the laboratory machines are subjected to regular quality control examinations.

Equipment is available for a variety of bacteriological cultures. These include aerobic and anaerobic cultures. Routine investigations can normally be performed into the complaints of all species of companion animals.
