Youngstock

The care of the newborn calf is very important. We can advise on delivery of the calf, how to get it breathing, correct attention to the navel and feeding of colostrum. We may need to advise on vaccination of the pregnant cow to ensure that colostrum will be of high quality and nutrition of the dry cow to ensure she does not suffer milk fever and hence not be able to feed her calf.

We advise on the prevention and treatment of scours and can assist to diagnose the cause of scour using our rapid laboratory service.

We can advise on the rearing of the calf, its feeding, housing and methods for prevention of pneumonia. As the calf grows we will advise on vaccination programmes, worming and fly control. We can supply vaccines and medicines from our well equipped medicine store to assist in the implementation of our plans.
