Almost
all pig producers are members of a quality assurance group such
as Assured British Pigs. This necessitates a nominated vet visiting
each farm each quarter to carry out a welfare inspection and complete
a detailed report with the cooperation of the client.
David
Kerr is a nominated vet and carries out all of the quarterly inspections
for our pig clients. On these visits, a Veterinary Herd Health Plan
is created and reviewed quarterly. Advice is given on unit biosecurity,
vaccination and worming policies and general matters affecting production.
All
vets are happy to attend in the case of emergency assuming they
are "pig clean", i.e. have not been in contact with pigs for 48
hours prior to entering a pig unit.
