Deer and Exotic animals
Vets from the Endell Veterinary Group are regularly asked to treat unusual animals and birds and to advise on their husbandry.

In the past vets from the farm animal sector have worked on deer farms. Now most of the deer that we see are wild animals that are either sick or have been injured. Most of these are Roe deer but Red, Sika, Fallow and Muntjac are all common around Salisbury and have all been treated on occasion.

We also regularly attend other large exotic species including Bison, Buffalo, Camels, Llamas, Alpacas, Wild Boar etc. to advise on and carry out routine husbandry procedures and also in cases of emergency. Smaller exotic species of animals and birds tend to be seen by vets in the Small Animal Sector who have expertise in this area. If surgery is indicated this can either be carried out on farm or in the Equine Sector's purpose built operating theatre in the Equine hospital.

In addition to providing husbandry advice and treating sick and injured animals we are also called to sedate non–domesticated species (and particularly fractious individuals of domesticated species!) to allow them to be captured, handled or moved. We have our own dart gun for this purpose and access to blow pipes if these are considered necessary.
